Young footballers braved the wet weather and took to the pitch during the weekend for the 2007 Dereham Times Cup.

About 600 young footballers from about 90 teams competed in the five-a-side tournament that was on Saturday and Sunday and hosted by Dereham Town Football Club at Aldiss Park.

The under sevens, nines, 11s and 13s teams played on Saturday and the under eights, 10s, 12s and 14s played on Sunday.

Matt Henman, one of the organisers, said: “This is the third year of the event and despite the rain all the children have enjoyed themselves. They have played good games and have been very competitive.”

The event was sponsored by the Dereham Times.

The Under 7s was an uncompetitive tournament with teams from Sprowston, Wymondham, Leverington / Bridgecroft, Mattishall, Dereham Wanderers and Dereham Magpies. There were some good performances from local teams Mini Wanderers and Mattishall.

Under 8s - Woottons.

Under 12s - Mattishall
